Restoring the Supremacy and Sovereignty of Jesus Christ

Full disclosure:  I received a free copy of Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola‘s Jesus Manifesto and was asked to mention it in my blog. I haven’t read the whole book yet, but from what I’ve read so far, I can agree with the great reviews. If this book is on your reading list, move it up. If it’s not, add it. Here’s the promo:

“Thomas Nelson is releasing a new book called Jesus Manifesto: Restoring the Supremacy and Sovereignty of Jesus Christ by Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola. This book will be on special discount from Amazon.com on June 1st, the date of the release. You can learn more by going to www.theJesusManifesto.com. Endorsements by Rowan Williams, Matt Chandler, Calvin Miller, Ed Young, Jack Hayford, Shane Claiborne, Ed Stetzer, Reggie McNeal, Mark Batterson, Gregory Boyd, David Fitch, Steve Brown, Dan Kimball, Margaret Feinberg, Mark Chironna, Francis Frangipane, Todd Hunter, Alan Hirsch, Chris Seay, Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, Anne Jackson, Craig Keener, Ken Ulmer, Tommy Barnett, Sally Morgenthaler, and others.”

I’ll do a more complete review when I’ve finished the book.

Southern Festival of Books: the writers

Kate DiCamillo

Trenton Lee Stewart, Kathy Mattea, Kate DiCamillo, Silas House, and Jason Howard were the only authors my wife and I were able to see during the three days of The Southern Festival of Books in Nashville. More than 200 authors were present, but we could only be there for 1 day.  Despite what we missed, what we attended was well worth the trip.

It's all about books!

Amy and I had a great time yesterday in Nashville at the Southern Festival of Books.

videos about books

My wife and I both have degrees in English. She even got good grades. I passed and also did coursework towards my Masters degree. But when we’re reading, we are far more likely to be reading romance novels (her)  and comic books (me) than any great literary works.  Because many of the books Amy reads are from authors who have websites, sometimes she’ll watch a video promoting a book.

This has always seemed odd to me. (more…)
